The Severance Season 2 finale answered some but not all questions and the dramatic ending doesn’t give the audience any clues for the direction the next season of the show will be heading. Severance Season 3 is currently in the works and many fans of the show are already speculating about what is to come.
Let’s get started with this list of all the top fan theories for season 3!
1. Jame Eagan will promote Helly R to a full-time innie who is allowed off the severed floor
In the finale, Jame Eagan literally says he does not like his daughter and that he ‘sees Kier’ in Helly R. Many fans now believe that there is a good chance Helly R will get promoted to a full-time innie and be allowed to live outside the severed floor.
If this is the case, it will be interesting to see how this changes her character’s feelings towards Lumon or if they remain the same and somehow she is able to take advantage of the promotion in order to help the other innies.
2. Irving Was Tested On The Same Way Gemma Was or Possibly ‘Reset’ Before
We can expect to learn more about Irving’s paintings in season 3 and many fans suspect the reason for his visions is that he was tested on or possibly ‘reset’ before so that he could be assigned to a new job within Lumon. I personally am not 100% sure about this theory but I definitely feel like his outie’s repetition of painting the same scene of the hallway was a purposeful attempt to make the scene so familiar that it would ‘bleed through’ to his innie.
I think it is likely that Iriving was talking to Reghabi on the phone and the she may have helped him find this way to ‘communicate’ with his innie as well as fed him a lot of the information we see that his outie has gathered on Lumon.
3. Gemma/Devon & Cobel Team Up To Take On Lumon
Given the events of the Season 2 finale with Gemma in the hallway and Devon & Cobel likely waiting outside to help her escape, a team up of these three is likely on the cards.
I suspect a large part of their plan will initially involve somehow forcing innie Mark into leaving the severed floor before taking on their shared enemy of Lumon.
4. Ricken is a Goat’s Outie or is Some Form of Innie
As stupid as it sounds, I really love this theory and all the so-called ‘evidence’ which points towards this.
Many Redditors have pointed out the alarming amount of goat related decor in Ricken’s house and the strangeness of his friends who we saw in season 1 and… well I guess there isn’t a ton of evidence for this theory but many Severance fans are running with the theory nonetheless. 🤨
Of course, this theory is very unlikely, but the fact remains that there is currently more evidence to support this theory than disprove it. 💀
5. Cobel Can Help Reghabi With Perfecting The Re-integration Process
Reintegration may be off the cards after Innie Mark’s valid point in the Season 2 finale where he brings up the fact that a combination of him and his outie self would be a lot less innie and a lot more outie due to the vast difference in their amount of life/memories.
However, if the innie and outie selfs are to be reintegrated, or possibly separated, or whatever happy resolution can be found to satisfy both versions of each character, then it is likely that Cobel & Reghabi who seem to share a history related to the development of the severance process may work together to achieve it.
6. Irving was Refining Helly R
We now know that Mark was refining Gemma, but this knowledge now begs the question… who were the others refining? Some fans have speculated that Irving may have been refining Helly R and that this is why he was so quick to recognise the difference between her innie and outie self as he was use to dealing with her emotions when refining.
7. Irving Was Mark’s Therapist
I saw this theory in the TikTok below which connects the mention of Mark having a shrink with a funny moustache to Irving being told by Ms Casey that his outie is a friend to the insane. Irving’s moustache isn’t particularly ‘funny’ so perhaps the true suspect is Gemma’s creepy dentist/Christmas companion who was on the testing floor with her and there is also the chance that this line is pretty irrelevant and was just to highlight that Mark had sought help.
8. Lumon Will Have to Employ More Security Guards
Given the recent events on the severed floor in both Season 1 and 2, it is likely that Lumon will finally give Milchick some back up.
