Part of what makes Friends such a great show is that all six main characters are complex, well written characters. As a result of this, the characters are very human and therefore have many bad moments across the ten seasons.

This list rounds up the worst moment of each Friend, which usually comes in the form of letting down another one of the friends or just doing something straight up embarrassing.

Ross: “Cheating” on Rachel

It’s up for debate whether or not Ross and Rachel were on a break, although I think they obviously technically were, I think few would disagree that Ross was in the wrong for going out with a girl on the night of his fight with Rachel. This is definitely his character’s worst moment as it breaks up his relationship with Rachel with the two then struggling for the rest of the seasons to repair their relationship.

Rachel: Giving Her Cheerleading “Performance”

In an attempt to win over Joshua, Rachel decides she will put on her high school cheerleading costume and perform in order to impress him. The whole episode marks a low for Rachel’s character as the whole plan is just straight up sad and pathetic. This plot line feels a little out of character for Rachel and is one of the only instances where she really embarrasses herself in the show… well, at least time and time again in the same episode.

Joey: Getting Tricked Into Going Into The Cabinet & Allowing The Apartment To Be Robbed

You can’t really blame Joey for this as he was tricked into climbing into the cabinet which he was then locked in by a prospective buyer of the cabinet, so some might argue that this isn’t his worst moment. However, the scene is super frustrating to watch and was very annoying for Chandler who later had to pay to replace all furniture. Another notably bad moment for Joey which we only hear about as it is to have happened years earlier is when he threw a girl’s prosthetic leg in the fire (mistaking it for a log) and left her when away on a trip with her.

Monica: Kissing Richard’s Son

This was a very awkward plot which saw Monica invite Richard’s son over for Thanksgiving. The two share a kiss but the son promptly leaves as the kiss reminds Monica of Richard. Not only was this plot icky but it also doesn’t make a lot of sense as Monica is likely to have seen the son before given she had such a serious relationship with his father. Later, Richard would reappear when Chandler is planning to propose to Monica with this little storyline being of no relevance.

Phoebe: Finding “Monica’s Soulmate” When She Was Already Married To Chandler

Season 9 was full of bad moments for Phoebe from dropping the lottery tickets to singing annoyingly outside of Monica’s restaurant. The plot of Phoebe believing to have met Monica’s soulmate and then introducing him to Monica in front of Chandler makes for a very funny plot but one that quite obviously makes her a poor friend to Chandler. 💀 Phoebe gets a lot meaner in the final seasons which does provide for some of the funniest moments in the show but also results in many “bad friend” moments from her.

Chandler: Calling A Teenage Monica Fat

Chandler is a character who besides the odd insulting or sarcastic comment doesn’t really have many bad moments and is always there for his friends. His worst moment can be found in one of the flashback episodes when he calls Monica fat, however, as the episode later shows this leading to the loss of the tip of his toe, I would say he can be forgiven. His next worst moment but a very understandable one would be when he has cold feet on the morning of his wedding with Monica.
