Severance is one of the few shows in the streaming era which really does have well-written characters who are both complex and likeable in a consistent (as well as real) way. This is part of the reason why the show is so enjoyable to watch and viewers are so invested in the story.
Ranking the characters of Severance is difficult as some characters which aren’t ‘likeable’ are still very much entertaining. This list ranks the characters of Severance using a combination of their entertainment value and their ‘like-ability’.
16. Jame Eagan

Like-ability: 1 | Entertainment Value: 3
From the little we’ve seen of Jame Eagan he doesn’t seem to be that endearing, which isn’t that surprising given he is the CEO of Lumon. His scenes are not that entertaining either but his character does serve a significant purpose for the plot of the show.
15. Helena Eagan

Like-ability: 3 | Entertainment Value: 5
We really have no reason to like Helena given her identity theft of Helly R and her role in Lumon, however, we can empathise with what seems to be a lonely existence that she leads.
Helena is very entertaining in scenes where we know it is her but her score for entertainment value is lower due to her posing as Helly R actually making her less entertaining as she is simply duping Helly R and this is also the reason why we see so little of Helly R in Season 2.
14. Reghabi

Like-ability: 5 | Entertainment Value: 4
Reghabi is a very neutral character in terms of entertainment value and like-ability. So far her plots have yet to be very consequential to the story and she is a very secretive character so we aren’t too sure what to think of her.
We know that she’s likely going to play a big role in taking down Lumon so we can likely expect to get to know her more next season.
13. Ricken

Like-ability: 5 | Entertainment Value: 5
Ricken is one of the more whimsical characters in the show and is both relatively entertaining and likeable. However, in Season 2 his character was greatly nerfed and we really only saw him being concerned for Mark as well as his pocket book when given an offer from Lumon.
The goat theories surrounding him online due to the goat decor in his home and his strange friends which are seen in the Season 1 finale suggest that we (and Devon) may not know Ricken as well as we think though.
12. Outie Dylan

Like-ability: 5 | Entertainment Value: 5
You can’t help but feel bad for Outie Dylan and hope he finds a way to turn his life around. He does appear to be very depressed and why this is the case we don’t really know. Any scenes of his at the moment are relatively entertaining as we still don’t know very much about him so anything at all with him is somewhat interesting.
11. Ms Huang

Like-ability: 6 | Entertainment Value: 5
Ms Huang made for quite the comedic plot line with the office workers confused by her presence and Mr Milchick’s beef with her. Her storyline is likely over now but it did make for an entertaining watch and helped add some context to how Ms Cobel was likely introduced to Lumon when she won the same fellowship as a kid.
10. Outie Irving

Like-ability: 6 | Entertainment Value: 6
One of the outies that still remains a mystery for the most part is Irving. We still don’t much about his past, who he was on the phone to in episode 2 and what the purpose of his intel collection of Lumon was.
From what we’ve seen, he seems to be perhaps the most similar from all the outies to his innie self and the drama with Burt made for an interesting addition to Season 2 which leaves a lot of open ended questions for Season 3 to tackle.
9. Outie Mark

Like-ability: 6 | Entertainment Value: 8
As the main character of the show, any scene with Mark is usually important to the main storyline and is therefore entertaining to watch. However, as he is depressed most of the time, we have mostly seen him at his worse and feeling low so he is not exactly someone that is overly likeable.
He does get bonus points for his commitment to saving his wife though in the last few episodes of Season 2.
8. Innie Mark

Like-ability: 6 | Entertainment Value: 8
Similarly to his outie, as Mark is the main character, any scene of Innie Mark’s is usually entertaining to watch as it tackles the main questions of the show. Innie Mark is fairly likeable throughout most episodes of the show.
His like-ability score is only a 6 mostly due to his decision to leave Gemma out in that stairwell by herself. 😭 Yes I know that it would basically end his existence and that Helly R is the one who he loves which is why it makes it such a great ending, but that doesn’t stop me from holding it against him. 🤨
7. Mr Milchick

Like-ability: 5 | Entertainment Value: 10
Mr Milchick is definitely one of the most entertaining characters in the show. From his over-articulation to his dancing, Milchick is such a unique character which the show really would not be the same without.
His character is kind of likeable as you can’t help but respect the hustle that is supervising the severed floor and doing all the side quests which we see him do for Lumon in Episode 2 of Season 2. However, we cannot ignore him telling Ms Casey to walk back into that hallway or the fact that he is kind of the reason that the innies are all still there and that there overtime contingency was cut so short.
6. Innie Irving

Like-ability: 8 | Entertainment Value: 8
The fact that innie Irving was the only one to recognise that Helly R was not herself and was in fact Helena is a big reason why Irving is one of my favourites. Irving has a really great dynamic with all of the other characters too with his friendship with Dylan being one of the most entertaining dynamics in the show. His plot lines are also entertaining and it has been interesting to see him slowly turn against Lumon and eventually also be ‘fired’ from Lumon.
5. Ms Cobel

Like-ability: 7 | Entertainment Value: 10
Any scene with Cobel makes for a really fun watch. Her absurdism and smarts make for a lot of comedic moments and like Mark, you know any scene she is in is going to be central to the main storyline’s progression.
4. Helly R

Like-ability: 9 | Entertainment Value: 9
A lot of the most iconic moments of Severance involve Helly R and that is because she is a very iconic and unique character. Her spontaneity and bold personality is always interesting to watch and makes for a lot of dramatic moments. This includes that elevator scene in Season 1 to her speeches in the season finales.
3. Innie Dylan

Like-ability: 10 | Entertainment Value: 8
Innie Dylan is definitely the funniest character in the show, especially dialogue wise, with his constant foul language making for so many comedic moments. In Season 1 he really drives the plot forward in a lot of ways as he is able to plan out and enact the plan for the overtime contingency.
We don’t see a lot of his character in Season 2 besides the plot with his outie’s wife which actually felt kind of rushed and wasn’t that entertaining (imo). Hopefully in Season 3 we see more of a payoff for this storyline and him being more involved in the main storyline too.
2. Devon

Like-ability: 10 | Entertainment Value: 9
Devon is super likeable and her total support for Mark is just one of the many contributing factors for this. Her follow up and follow through with making sure to get an understanding of what Innie Mark meant by ‘She’s alive!’ is the whole reason Gemma was able to be saved in the Season 2 finale. She also is always involved in the most important and dramatic moments towards the end of both seasons and provides a really great total outsider POV.
1. Gemma

Like-ability: 10 | Entertainment Value: 10
Gemma has quickly became a fan favourite as it is hard not to like a seemingly sweet woman being tortured and held captive. Her centric episode in Season 2 is one of the most entertaining of the show and quickly made the audience a lot more invested in her and Outie Mark’s reunion.
It is fair to say that no matter where the story goes, after all the suffering she has been through, Gemma is someone who the majority of Severance fans will be rooting for – with her happiness a priority over Innie Mark and Helly R’s. 😤💀
That wraps up this ranking of the characters of Severance! Let me know what your Severance character rankings are and if you agree/disagree with mine in the comments below!

You left out Ms. Casey 10/10
I always looked forward to her scenes. Her kindness and sweetness were exactly what the Innies needed as she was like the kind schoolteacher caring for children from abused homes although she was childlike and innocent herself. The emotional pull towards her as a character kept me rooting for her from her first scene to the last!
Devon is a terrible character, lol.
