Taylor Swift’s new album has been out for a few days now and if you are anything like me, you have likely had it on repeat. Now that we have had the time for all the tracks to grow on us, I think we will now be somewhat confidently able to rank our favourite tracks.
The Life of a Showgirl makes for one of Taylor’s most distinct and hit-packed albums yet which is why making this ranking is so challenging, as well as likely to be somewhat controversial.
This ranking reflects my own personal opinions on the album and is purely based on which songs I enjoy listening to the most. Be sure to let me know your ranking in the comments below! 🙂
12. Honey

This song sounds ok but just doesn’t resonate with me which is why I haven’t really been streaming it. The song has the makings for a much better song but the chorus lets the song down in my opinion.
11. Wood

Sonically, this song is really great as it samples ‘I Want You Back’ by The Jackson Five. However, I don’t really relate to or care for the lyrics and subject matter of this song which is why it is at the lower end of this ranking. I will admit it is a very catchy song though and the ‘knock on wood’ line has been playing in my mind on repeat since hearing it. 😭
10. CANCELLED!

Similarly, this song is great sonically but the lyrics just aren’t relatable to me at all which is why I haven’t been listening to it that much. I really like the verses of this song though but I do find the chorus a little vanilla.
9. The Life of a Showgirl

This song is just ok in my opinion but will likely grow on me over the coming weeks. Sabrina and Taylor’s vocals are very satisfying on this track but the lyrics feel a little vapid which is why it is not one of my favourites on the album.
8. Actually Romantic

This song is very catchy and well produced but features a few lyrics which lowkey put me off listening to the song – particularly outside of my headphones. 💀
7. Eldest Daughter

This is when my ranking gets a lot more difficult as I actually really love my top 7 songs on The Life of a Showgirl.
A lot of the lyrics in Eldest Daughter are actually quite profound and well written – although I do think the line about looking fire dressed up as wolves is the weakest line in the song. The heat this song is taking online is similar to that of Anti Hero and I think a lot of people will grow to this love this song the same way they did ‘Anti Hero’ when they actually listen to the song and realise the satirical intention of some of the lyrics.
6. Ruin The Friendship

The lyrics and storytelling of this song are right up my ally which is why it is one of my favourites on the album. From the chorus to the verses and the bridge, this song is an all round well written song.
5. Wi$h Li$t

This song is something very different from any of Taylor Swfit’s other songs although it does feel like it could belong on the Reputation album. I really love this song both lyrically and sonically along with all the references. The dream of having a couple kids and having a driveway with a basketball hoop definitely makes me think of the Father of the Bride movie.
4. Elizabeth Taylor

My top 4 songs of this album have quite literally been on repeat since the album’s release and are likely to be very near the top of my Spotify Wrapped this year.
This song is most fitting of the ‘showgirl era’ and imagery used in the covers of this album. The line ‘I’d cry my eyes violet’ is the catchiest of the whole album in my opinion and the chorus of this song is the one I have found myself singing most often.
3. Father Figure

This is a song which won’t be for everyone but is definitely the one I think I will have on repeat most in my headphones. I will admit it took a few days for this song to grow on me as I was initially put off by some of the lyrics, but once you listen to the song you realise the lyrics fit the vibe/message of the song perfectly. This song is super motivational for me and is one I expect I will be streaming for a long time to come.
2. Opalite

Opalite makes for the most upbeat and best dance song on this album. This is one I have been listening to in the car a lot. The chorus of this song and the bridge at the end is truly pop perfection.
1. The Fate of Ophelia

This song manages to be both chill and upbeat at the same time while also having a profound sentiment, making for an instantly timeless hit.
This is the best song on the album in my opinion making it a very fitting lead single.
That wraps up my track ranking of The Life of a Showgirl songs! Feel free to let me know what your thoughts on the album are and your ranking of the tracks in the comments below.
